CyberNet Training ("we", "us") is a free website for learning how devices and the internet work. We're based in Australia. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- You can play every lesson without an account. Your progress then stays on your device.
- If you make an account (you must be 13 or older), we keep your email, the username you choose, your learning progress (including when you learn and your time zone, for daily goals and streaks) and your settings.
- No ads. We never sell your data. No tracking cookies.
- You can delete your account at any time on the Account page.
If you play as a guest
Your progress, XP and settings are saved in your browser's storage on this device, not on our servers. So are the times you earn XP and your device's time zone, which work out your daily goal and streak. Clearing your browser data removes them.
We also count visits with privacy-friendly analytics (see "Analytics" below). It doesn't use cookies and doesn't know who you are.
If you make an account
Accounts are for people aged 13 or older. When you sign in we keep:
- Your email address, so you can sign in.
- Your username, a made-up name you choose (or the one we suggest, like "PacketPilot482"). Other learners can see it in leagues, so never use your real name or contact details; we check every username for that. You can change it once every 30 days.
- Your learning progress: which cards, lessons and quizzes you've finished, your quiz answers and scores, and your XP.
- Cards you got wrong, for "Review your mistakes": which card, how many times you've missed it, when, and when you got it right in a review. We never keep the wrong answer you gave in a lesson. We keep this for every account, so it's ready if you get CyberNet Pro; only Pro can review the cards. Resetting your progress clears it.
- When your learning happens, and your time zone: the time of each moment you earn XP, and your device's time zone (for example "Australia/Sydney": it shows roughly which part of the world you're in, never your address or exact location). We use these only to work out your daily goal, your streak and your weekly league XP, so a day counts on your own calendar.
- Your settings: Path or Explore mode, sound on or off, your daily goal, which "how to play" tips you've seen, and whether you show on leaderboards.
- Your rewards: which avatar items you've won and which items your avatar is wearing, and the reward spins you've earned (from finishing modules and courses, and streaks). Rewards are only for fun: they can't be bought and aren't worth anything.
- Your league details: your tier, which league you're in each week and how you finished.
- That you confirmed you're 13 or older. We only store "confirmed", never your date of birth.
- Which new lessons you open each day (the lesson and the day, nothing else), because free accounts can open 3 new lessons a day, and when you last changed your time zone (it can change once a week, so the day can't be reset early).
- If you subscribe to CyberNet Pro: your Stripe customer number and your subscription's plan, status and dates (for example when it renews). We never see or store your card details: Stripe handles them.
- If you buy Founding Member: the date, the amount, Stripe's payment and checkout numbers, and whether it was refunded.
- If a parent pays through a link: we keep a scrambled version of the link (never the link itself), when it was made, opened and used. The parent's name, email and card details go to Stripe, not to us. Leaderboards show a Founding Member badge next to your username (unless you hide yourself from leaderboards).
If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your email address, and also your name and profile picture. We don't use or show your name or picture, and we remove them from your profile. Our sign-in provider (Supabase) keeps the details Google sent in its sign-in records until you delete your account.
We use this information only to run your account and save your progress across devices.
Leagues and leaderboards
If you have an account, you take part in weekly leagues of up to 30 learners. What others in your league can see:
- your username (a made-up name, like "SwiftRouter42") and your avatar (our mascot in the items you chose from our own set, never a photo),
- your tier (Packet up to Quantum), your XP this week, and whether you have Pro.
That's all. They never see your email, your real name, your other stats or where you are. Only learners in your own league that week see you, and only while they're signed in.
- Usernames must stay anonymous: no real names, contact details, social media names or rude words (we check them). Please never put personal information in your username.
- Hide yourself any time: turn off "Show me on leaderboards" on the Account page or the Leagues page, and nobody else sees you in any league. Your tier then stays as it is.
- Reports: if you report a username, we keep the report (your account, the username and the reason) so an adult can review it, and we email a short daily summary of new reports to our own inbox. If three different learners report the same username, we replace it with a new made-up one.
Challenge a friend
If you make a challenge, we store which lesson and questions it uses, whether you got each one right, and when you made it. Anyone you send the link to sees only your username and avatar and your score, never your email or anything else. When a friend plays it, we store their right and wrong answers, their score and the one reaction they pick from a fixed list (there's no free text). If they're signed in, their username is shown to you; if not, they show as "A guest". Links stop working after 30 days, and your challenges are deleted with your account.
Reminder emails (only if you turn them on)
Reminder emails are off unless you tick "Email me before my streak or league ends", when you pick your username or in your account settings. If you do:
- We send at most one email a day: a note before your streak ends (in the evening, your time, only if you haven't learned anything that day) or a few hours before your weekly league resets. Never adverts or offers.
- We keep a record of each one: when it was sent, whether it was opened (a tiny image in the email tells us, roughly) and whether you tapped its button, so we can tell if reminders help. We keep when you turned them on, as a record of your consent.
- Every email has a one-tap unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and you can turn them off in your account settings any time.
Certificates
With CyberNet Pro, you can create a certificate when you pass a course final. We keep the name you choose for it (a first name or nickname is fine), the course, the date you finished and a random certificate ID.
- Its public check page (cybernettraining.com/certificate/your-ID) shows only that name, course, date and ID, so anyone you give the link to can see it's genuine. Nobody can find it without the ID, it's hidden from search engines, and it never shows your email, username or anything else about your account.
- Withdraw it any time on the certificate's page or your Account page: its check page then says it isn't valid. Creating a new one (for example with a different name) withdraws the old one.
- Deleting your account deletes your certificates.
Feedback
If you use "Send feedback", we store your message, and optionally which lesson it's about and a star rating. Feedback isn't linked to your account. We also keep a random code for your browser tab, only to stop spam. Each message is also emailed to us, with the page you came from, the time, and whether you were signed in (never who you are). Please don't include personal details in your message.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits and a few events, such as "lesson started", "lesson completed" and "quiz passed", the answer you tap if you choose to tell us why you're not getting Pro yet (like "Just exploring"), and which video or website sent a visitor (for example "tiktok"). It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and we never send it your email, name or anything you type. Web addresses are trimmed before they're counted.
How cards are doing
To find questions that are too hard, too easy or confusing, the lesson player notes, for each question, how many seconds it took to the first answer and whether that answer was right. That's all: it isn't linked to you, your account or your device (no ids at all), so it can't be traced back to anyone.
Cookies and storage
- Sign-in cookies: only if you have an account, to keep you signed in. They're needed for the site to work.
- A return-page cookie: when you start signing in, it remembers which page to bring you back to (such as the lesson you were on). It holds only that page's address, and it's deleted when you get back, or after an hour.
- Browser storage on your device: your guest progress and settings, your light or dark theme, and small flags such as whether you've closed a tip.
- No advertising or tracking cookies.
Services we use
We share information only with the services that run the website:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in system. Stores account data and feedback.
- Vercel: hosts the website and runs our cookieless analytics.
- Google: only if you choose "Continue with Google" to sign in.
- Resend: sends sign-in emails, reminder emails (only to learners who turned them on), a reminder 3 days before a Pro free trial ends (to that subscriber only), our daily summary of username reports, and a copy of each feedback message (both sent only to us).
- Stripe: only if you subscribe to CyberNet Pro or buy Founding Member. Stripe runs the checkout and handles your card; it also has your email (for receipts). See Stripe's privacy policy.
These companies may store data on servers outside Australia. They're only allowed to use it to provide their service to us.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads.
- We don't sell or rent anyone's information.
- We don't use tracking cookies or third-party trackers.
- We don't have chat, messaging or public profiles.
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your email, username, progress and settings are deleted straight away (our providers' backups may keep a copy for a short time before it's gone for good). Feedback isn't linked to accounts, so it isn't deleted with them.
Your choices and rights
- See or change your username on the Account page.
- Delete your account on the Account page. This deletes everything linked to it.
- Ask us what we hold about you, or to fix or delete it, by emailing us.
- If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Children
Anyone can play as a guest. Accounts are only for people aged 13 or older. If you're a parent or carer and think a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
